Altar of the Fatherland

  • Altar of the Fatherland was elevated to the anniversary of the unification of Italy in 1911 with a memorial dedicated to Victor Emmanuel II. Altar is 135 meters wide and 130 meters long and 81 meters in height. In this area until 1885 before had a medieval quarter palaces in the Renaissance style. Construction officially opened several times (most recently in 1935).

    On the altar is a wide staircase in the center of the memorial to the King of Italy. At the foot of the monument on the grave of the Unknown Soldier and the eternal flame burns stands guard of honor in the form of Bersaglieri with peaks in their hands.

    From the Altar is a beautiful view of all of Rome. It is strange that in each direction Rome - its unique appearance.

    Altar of the Fatherland is of great historical and architectural landmark, which testifies to the rich history of Italy, namely the reunification and freedom of all Italians.
