Square of Europe

    Europe Square was opened relatively recently, in 2002, and is intended to symbolize the rapprochement with the European Union.

    The first stone was solemnly laid out in September 2001 in the City Day. The project is a joint creative solution Russian and Belgian specialists. From the Russian project was the chief architect of the Academy of Sciences Yu Platonov.

    The architectural ensemble of the area consists of forty-eight columns with flags of European countries, the eponymous restaurant "Europe" and the sculptural group "The Rape of Europa".

    Sculpture made by the Belgian sculptor Olivier Strebel and it was a gift from Brussels, Moscow. The basis laid traditional mythological story, but it is made in an abstract form. Silver tube, gossips, symbolize head Zeus-bull and a young girl-Europe. The combination of steel and water make this sculpture most abstract sculpture in Moscow.
